Vitreous Enamel Earrings- Shades of Green

Vitreous Enamel Earrings- Shades of Green

$30.00

Description

Vitreous enamel consists of finely ground glass powder that I sift over hand cut copper shapes. This is then carefully heated with a plumbers torch to reach1500 degrees. At that temperature, the powdered glass liquifies, and for the crackle technique it spreads, forming a distinct pattern. The pieces are then allowed to slow cool for several hours after which time the glass is permanently adhered to the metal underneath.

One of the reasons I wanted to learn enameling was so I could pair it with tin as a lovely accompaniment. This ‘bitter green’ enamel coordinates beautifully with the asian inspired black and green floral tea tin below. I wanted to achieve a window effect with the tin peeking through. Czech faceted crystals and sterling silver ear wires complete the look.
